Sewing a Fleece Blanket. How to make the seams look better.?
A friend of mine is a RABID Notre Dame Football Fan and I knitted him a blue and gold scarf for Christmas but I want to make him a Fleece Throw in Blue and Gold.

I want to cut either strips or squares of blue and gold then sew them in to a quilt like throw.

The edges of the strips always come out so "Rough" and I was hoping not to have to make a backing for the throw.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can sew a Pill-Free Fleece Blanket/Throw and make it look "Clean" but still hand made?

Sew it with flat-felled seams. Look at the seam of your jeans and that is what it will look like. You sew the two edges of fabric together, then trim one side by about half the width and fold over the un-trimmed edge in half and top-stitch it flat with the trimmed side underneath. This will be a little tricky with fleece due to the thickness.

Another idea would be to buy ribbon trim or bias tape in a matching color and stitch it over the raw seams. You might consider sewing the strips together so it looks like a gridiron — the stitch lines or tape would then look like the yard lines and you could applique embroidered numbers on them.

If you have access to a zig-zag stitch machine (or are willing to do a lot of hand sewing) it might be better to applique cut out shapes in the gold onto a full sized piece of the blue.

You made me remember one of my roommates years ago — she had graduated from Notre Dame and was such a football fanatic she actually put a hole in the plaster ceiling of our living room with her Notre Dame class ring when she jumped up and flung her arms in the air doing a cheerleader yell while watching a "Fightin’ Irish" game on TV. Now there was a fan!

Try a tie-blanket! They look great and you don’t have to sew anything.
