My boyfriend gave me his extra dog tags before he left for Iraq, is that like giving a promise ring?
My boyfriend and I just started dating, literally that day when he gave me his dog tags to hold on to. Although we had been talking for 4 months prior. He was leaving to go Iraq in just a week. We live 4 hrs from each other so we didn’t get to see each other much when he was home on R&R. I was hoping to get another soldier’s opinion on what he thinks about my boyfriend giving this to me. I wear it everyday and I have never taken it off. I have had it for over a month now. Just wondering if giving a girl your dog tags is just a little something to remember me by or if it was more like giving a promise ring or whatever. We haven’t said I love you (because I want it to be face to face and not over the computer or the webcam) I do love him tho, just trying to figure out if the feeling is mutual and if maybe that was what he was kinda saying when he asked me to wear his dog tags.. He probably gave them to you as something to remember him by. He wants you to have something that’s very important to him close to you so when you see them you will think of him. I gave my wife a set of mine when I went overseas also

awwww….that is sweet. I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s a like a promise ring, but most likely something of his that he wanted you to have so you will kind of have a piece of him while he is gone.

HI, when a soldier is ready ta go ta war many things go through his mind. there is fear , there is depression , there is a lot of uncertainty. maybe doubt as to whether hell come back or not. he’s got a girl here at home, well that makes things tougher yet. i cant say why he gave you the tags , but i know the reason for 2 sets of tags is if ya get decapacitated the other set is in yer right boot fer id purposes. if something should happen i’m not saying it will he probably would want you ta remember the times yall have had . if not well i guess theres a commitment there . i never had a girl when i left . hope this helped even a little. theres just no answers fer a question like this .

not to be confused with a ring that is only meaningful if you know the whole story
Dog Tags can not be mistaken
there are no two sets alike
when he comes back from Iraq alive(?)
he will be all yours to do with as you may
please express your love to him in whatever form you wish (online or letter or on the phone)
He is a brave man who iswilling to do for us what few men are (give his life)
I would pray that he comes home safe and secure if I believed in a higher power
