My mum says I am like my gran (=mean, grumpy, arrogant…)?
I am 15. My mum often makes remarks that I am a lot like my grandmother. My grandmother is grumpy, arogant, mean, horrible, ugly and easily offended. I am not like this at all but my mum likes to make these remarks. It seems like she thinks they make her look cleverer or like she has more authority. She doesnt! If she says something which I think is unfair or something similar, she says it to me. This just makes me even more upset. What is worse, today we had guests round and they were talking about me and my brother (I hate it when adults discuss me). To make herself seem more intelligent she said I am a lot like my grandmother. That was even worse! I felt really bad. What should I do? I have told her it hurts my feelings, she just kind of said ‘Well, it is true!’. It is clearly not the truth and we both know it!
Other than that me and my mum are really close. I love my mum
I’d ignore that shit, my friend had the same thing with her mother but since she’s 19 her mom stopped making those stupid remarks. Don’t get mad at her, she probably won’t get it and play the victim. Try to change your own attitude as in: oh well whatever you say I don’t care, that’s a lot easier than changing your mom
