 Bodyguard, The (1992)

Plot: A pop singer has been receiving threatening notes, and her manager hires a bodyguard known for his good work. The bodyguard ruffles the singer’s feathers and most of her entourage by tightening security more than they feel is necessary. The bodyguard is haunted by the fact that he was on Reagan’s secret service staff but wasn’t there to prevent the attack by Hinckley. Eventually the bodyguard and the singer start an affair, and she begins to believe his precautions are necessary when the stalker strikes close to home.

Is the violence in Australia becoming just as bad as America?
So many murders, and violence against other people in Australia. Are we just following a trend that is commonplace in America?
Will Australia become so similar that walking down the street will require a bodyguard?
Has America become stereotyped as a country with a violence streak?
Harvey - This is about society in general
I, for one, don’t like the trend that America is in. Of course, I think the world view of what is actually happening in America as far as murders, violence and crime is a little distorted and exaggerated, thanks to the media and the way they have of sensationalizing and emphasizing the bad while downplaying or ignoring any good. True, I think there is definitely a rise in the crime rate in America, partly due to the fact that there are more people than ever who call America home now. Our population is growing at a fast rate. The more people, the more crime. I live in a small city on the outskirts of a larger metropolitan area. You can still walk at night in my city without fear of being attacked. There is very little crime at all here, and no murders; however, in the larger cities close by, the crime rate has risen and there are murders. In fact, sadly, it is not uncommon anymore. Twenty years ago or so there was still crime, but not so commonplace as today.
I’m sorry I can’t comment on Australia because I don’t know how it is there. I just know that I don’t need a bodyguard to walk down the street here, and I hope you won’t, either. I know there are some places, though, that I wouldn’t want to walk even with a bodyguard.
I didn’t know America was stereotyped as a country with a violent streak. That’s sad to hear. I am disappointed by some of the things that have been happening in my country and am wondering if it will turn around before it gets worse, hopefully before some things get completely out of hand. I’m a proud, stubborn American, though, and I will hold out with my fellow good Americans who still love their country and want a better life for their kids. = )

Sad isn’t it?, and yes it looks like we are heading down the same track. Why is it happening?, I think it is due to drugs, alcohol and the children not being taught to have respect for others and their property. Today’s child gets practically anything it cries or ask for and therefore doesn’t respect anything it gets given.

I would say that the American society has been manipulated, conformed into acting certain ways, even if they completely go against one thing. Such an unrelated example is someone very much against gay rights but shops at Wal-Mart, as that corporation supports gay rights. Many do not know these things but continue to go about their own business. Such as a Christian(not necessarily an active one) steals from homes and knows it is wrong.
The American government versus the Australian do not compare. America and Europe have robded 3rd world countries of their resources for such a small price and has been for centuries. Many 3rd world countries have the capacity and resources to uphold their starving children and position of poverty they are in. Every countries community has their problems, but when they go against each other, the system they are conformed to wins.

It’s a sad state of affairs, why we copy them at all is beyond me, after all, what happened to football, meat pie’s, kangaroo’s and holden car’s, that’s australian, now the younger ones are calling each other dude instead of mate and yo instead of hey, and don’t even go there with the clothing, pants half hanging off and caps to the side, its crazy, and yes the violence is escalating but no where near the us of uk for that matter as our population is quite small compared to theirs though, and unfortunately there seems to be alot of asian drug rings raided lately, I suppose that’s what comes from being a multi cultural nation

life to too short to make our own mistakes and learn every time… so, sometimes its better to learn from others mistakes.
australia is not only following violence found in america but also adopting american culture excessively, which is a blow to australia’s culture, morals and ethics.

Uh, I believe that there are places where much more violence against people are taking place on a much grander scale that in America, my friend. Maybe you have a hard on for America and I think you need to check the stats of mass murders that are taking place in Africa, Asia, India and everywhere in the world.
