Can I be deployed even though I have college first in my National Gaurd contract?
I’m an 11-Bravo in the National Gaurd and have college first in my contract. I finished training in July and started my first semester in late August. The thing is, I’ve been told by my unit that I could still be deployed. Infact, when I first brought it up I got laughed at. Some said I could be, some said I can’t. I feel shitty watching my unit go, but I joined this way to gain military experience while I go to school, then deploy. Seemed smarter than just doing college and then joining, why not get some experience under my belt.

I signed up for many reasons, but a big one was that if our country is at war I should do my part. But without college first I would have waited until I finished at least two years of school.

-I think maybe they got confused because recruitment stopped offering college first in contracts? ( I know I enlisted pretty close to deadline of when they stopped offering it)

-Also, could I be deployed in the summer because I’m not technically a full time student then? ( Even though I am through the year)

-Also, one of my classes started like a week later then the rest of my classes but is a fast paced intensive course(worth 6 credits). Since the class started a week later, my montgomery GI bill only gives me a monthly stipend of 1/2 the rate of full time. Would this effect college first?

-My contract states that I will receive 24 months of non-deployability from Iraq or Afghanistan ( I have to be enrolled into a college within 90 days of AIT completion- which I was)

- In my contract it states that I can be deployed to a new conflict outside of Iraq or Afghanistan, but thats not happening anyways.

At first I thought my Unit was possibly just messing with me, but nope it is up in the air.

You CAN get deployed. It doesn’t matter if you’re in school. What they didn’t tell you is that the contract binds you to the government, not the government to you…so if they need you, you’ll HAVE to deploy, or prison time.
Mikey | Feb 09, 2010

I’m not as familar as id like to be on this subject to give you an answer. If it says specifically on your contract that you can’t deploy to Afghanistan or Iraq, then they can’t make you. Most people will tell you that you got duped and will deploy. A contracts a contract. Stick by your guns and take your argument as high up as it needs to go.
Ryan | Feb 09, 2010

ABSOLUTELY.If your unit goes, you go.You deploy as a unit, and come back as a unit.Imagine if half the unit had college first contracts, how would they deploy half of a unit.Needs of the Army come first.
SapperDan | Feb 09, 2010

First priority is mission to defend your country, including combat..this will just delay your college in your contract…I hate when I hear that you can join and go to college , some recruiters forget to tell ppl that war is priority….and trumps everything else..

I know this from experience, 20 years in the military…

Guardian, The (2006)

IMDB rating: 6.70

Plot: The US Coast Guard version of “Top Gun” with a little “An Officer and A Gentleman” thrown in: an aging USCG rescue swimmer’s team is killed in a horrific rescue mission. Immediately prior to this terrible event, his wife also announced that she cannot take anymore. His first love is always the rescue mission. This leaves him an obviously emotional wreck. His commender gives him a choice - quit or take a position as an instructor at the USCG training facility in Louisiana. Reluctantly he takes the position. Moving into the school, he immediately increases the 18 week curriculum that routinely fails half of the people that attend. Here he meets a young man with unlimited potential, but with some secret that seems to hold him back as a team player. Delving into his past, links are found that make him a psychic twin to the older man. Thrown into the midst of the story is a romance with a local girl. Rescue missions punctuate the beginning and end of the story with the training sessions the center of the film.

Will having a knife for protection look bad?
I decided to file for divorce from my controlling spouse. She did not want the divorce and has since gone on a tirade of verbal and sometimes physical abuse, all in front of my two small children. She has caused bruises on my body and I never fight back, because I do not think my children should witness this. I have photos of bruises and audio recordings of her tirades. I am sleeping in the basement and took a knife with me when I sleep because I was afraid that she may try to kill me. She recently found the knife and called the police, who said that if I did not threaten her with it that nothing illegal has happened. The knife was hidden under the sofa where I was sleeping. I have never abused her or even raised my voice to her in my life, which my children can verify. I was genuinely scared for my life. Soon a guardian will be appointed and make temporary orders and get one of us out of the house.

Will this incident look bad during my divorce case?

Any comments are appreciated.

since you have footage of her tirades no (good job by the way) get as much footage as you can, the more the better. video/audio proof is hard to argue with, and the pictures of the bruises, GENIUS!! i wouldn’t be surprised if you got full custody

Stop being a crybaby little coward and grow a pair you little homo. "Oh, look at me, I’m afraid of a woman and wont fight back, I better go on the internet and ask strangers in cyber space how to solve my problems." Please. You little fag, get off the internet.
Marsha | Feb 07, 2010

No. You should not penalized for this. I also had a knife under my bed while I was divorcing my husband. He found the knife and took it to his attorney. His mistake was that he did not file a police report, hence whatever he gave to his attorney was subject. First of all, I am so sorry about the physical abuse but I am wondering why you are not calling the cops out if she is leaving bruises on your body? You have to document everything very closely , meaning, the more police reports you have documenting her abuse, the clearer picture the courts will have regarding her out of control behavior. I would move out immediately. Staying in a situation that you consider so threatening to your life will make the courts wonder if you are truly that scared. Keep all the phone messages. They are concrete evidence in court to her abusive behavior. Hopefully any physical injury she has directed to you has been documented with more than photos. Photos, per se, are not strong evidence for past abuse. You need to involve the police per each incident, with a police report per incident, and perhaps even with her being arrested. You are not allowed to beat up on people, even if you are married. Good luck!!!!

Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006)

IMDB rating: 6.90

Plot: Manny (Ray Romano), Sid (John Leguizamo), and Diego (Denis Leary) are currently living in a large valley surrounded by an enormously high ice wall on all sides. When a waterpark begins to form, the trio discovers that the ice wall is actually a wall that is barely holding a massive body of water that could flood the valley to nearly a mile underwater. A vulture tells them that there is a boat at the other end of the valley that may save them all, but they only have 3 days to make it or die. Manny is having trouble facing the fact that he may be the last mammoth left. Along the way, they meet Ellie (Queen Latifah), a mammoth who thinks she is a possum, and her possum brothers Crash (Sean William Scott) and Eddie (Josh Peck). As they begin to travel together, Manny learns, with help from Diego and Sid, that having this new mammoth with them, may not be as bad as Manny makes it out to be while they try to escape the oncoming and continually threatening flood. During their journey, Scrat the sabre-toothed squirrel has his own hilarious adventures that eventually leads to something else entirely.

Brother Bear 2

Brother Bear 2
Brother Bear 2 (2006)

IMDB rating: 6.00

Plot: The bonds of true friendship and love are powerful enough to persist through even the most extreme circumstances, but can even the strongest bond endure when a young man and a young woman are split apart by the spirits? Since being turned into a bear as punishment for his insensitivity in Brother Bear, Kenai has managed to find true happiness and a compelling sense of purpose in his new relationship with his adopted brother Koda. But when Kenai’s old friend Nita prepares for her wedding day with another man, the spirits send a sign indicating that a strong connection still exists between Kenai and Nita. The tribe Shaman suggests that the two join forces in a ritual to sever the bond between them and Nita, newly endowed with the ability to communicate with animals, seeks out Kenai in the woods. Even as the two friends resolutely journey to break the connection between them, the inescapable bond between them strengthens and threatens to disrupt not only Nita’s upcoming marriage, but the special relationship between Kenai and Koda. In the end, destiny may require that each of the three choose between his or her happiness and the happiness of the other two. Like its predecessor Brother Bear, Brother Bear 2 features lush animation; a nice blend of action, suspense, and comedy; and a powerful message. (Ages 3 - 12)

Why do people say that apostates have to be killed in Islam?
"""""”DONT TELL ME WHAT MUSLIMS DO OR WHAT THE STUPID LAWS OF SAUDIA AND IRAN ARE,IM DEFENDING THE QURAN HERE NOT THE LAWS OF IRAN OR SAUDIA""""""

Apostates or Renegades are those who decide to leave the religion of Islam. There is a widely prevailing misconception about this issue. It is generally thought that the Holy Quran (The Muslims Holy Scripture) provides the death sentence for those who desert the religion of Islam. There is not the least ground for such a supposition. The Holy Quran speaks repeatedly of people going back to unbelief after believing, but never once does it say that they should be killed or punished. Although the Holy Quran does provide the death sentence for some situations such as putting a murderer to death, but it never provided death sentence or ordered the death of those who leave Islam.

Let us look at Noble Verse 2:217 "They ask thee (Mohammed) Concerning fighting In the Prohibited Month. Say: Fighting therein Is a grave (offence); but graver is it In the sight of Allah to prevent access to the path of Allah, to deny Him, to prevent access to the sacred Mosque, and drive out its members. Tumult and oppression are worse than slaughter. Nor will they cease fighting you until they turn you back from your faith if they can. And if any of you turn back from their faith (Islam) and die in unbelief, their works will bear no fruit in this life and in the hereafter; they will be companions of the fire and will abide therein." Here in this Holy Verse we see that Allah Almighty talks about those who leave Islam, and promises them punishment in the day of judgment. Allah Almighty doesn’t order the death of those people.

Let also look at Noble Verse 5:54 "O ye who believe! If any from among you turn back from his faith, soon will Allah produce a people whom He (Allah) will love as they will love Him lowly with the believers, Mighty against the rejecters, fighting in the way of Allah, and never afraid of the reproachers of such as find fault. That is the Grace of Allah which He will bestow on whom He (Allah) pleaseth. And Allah encompasseth all, and He knoweth all things." Here in this Holy Verse we see again Allah Almighty strengthening the faith of the Muslims in Islam by assuring them that whenever they see Muslims leaving Islam they will also see those who join Islam with strong faith and love to Allah Almighty.

"As most men are rebellious." (5:49), it is inevitable that there should be apostates even from such a religion of reason and common-sense as Islam. In Verse 5:54 above there is a warning to the Muslims that they should not repeat the history of the Jews, and become so self-satisfied or arrogant as to depart from the spirit of Allah’s teaching. If they do, the loss will be their own. Allah’s bounty is not confined to one group or section of humanity. He can always raise up people who will follow the true spirit of Islam. That spirit is defined in two ways:

1- They will love Allah Almighty and Allah Almighty will love them.

2- Amongst the Brethren, their attitude will be that of humility, but to wrongdoers they will offer no compromises, and they will always strive and fight for the truth and right. They will know no fear, either physical, or that more insidious form. They are too great in mind to be haunted by any such thought.

Let us look at Noble Verse 5:55 "(O Muslims) Your (real) friends are (No less than) Allah, His Messenger, and the (Fellowship Of) Believers, those who establish regular prayers and regular charity, and they bow down humbly (in worship)." Here we see Allah Almighty telling Muslims after he warned them from apostates in (5:54) that their real friends are: Allah Almighty, Prophet Mohammed peace be upon him, and the good Muslims who keep up with their prayers and charity, and who humbly worship their God.

Let us look at Noble Verse 3:90 "But those who reject faith after they accepted it, and then go on adding to their defiance of faith never will their repentance be accepted; for they are those who have (of set purpose) gone astray." Here in this holy verse we see Allah Almighty rejecting the faith of those who keep coming back and forth to Islam. In order for a human being to accept Islam as his religion, he must be certain about it first. Allah Almighty’s path is wide open, and his mercy is greater than this universe. This Holy Verse also does not order the death of those who leave Islam.

The path to Allah Almighty is always open and Allah Almighty will be your friend as in verse (5:55) above, and he will forgive your sins for you once you repent as in the following verse: "Except for those that repent (Even) after that, And make amends; for Allah is Oft-Forgiving Most Merciful." (3:89).
The Sayings of Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, regarding killing the renegades came when Islam was partial and the Muslims were dealing with wars all the time. So if the person wasn’t with the Muslims, then he was certainly with his people, the pagans and the other non-Muslims, and he would’ve then had to join the evil forces to fight the Muslims. So the case back then was different than today.

There is no hell or demons in Judaism, but mistranslations in xtianity and islam’s holy books. Judaism used ancient myth as parables to teach wisdom, but xtianity and islam read it as literal history - foolishness.

To believe in mythology is to be evil to others - believing in a cosmic war between good and evil (fruit of good and bad) makes you paranoid and unaware that we live on a natural planet paradise (out of Eden).

Those who are paranoid of an invisible evil kingdom become the evil others have to endure. You both think you’re helping your god by fighting an imaginary evil kingdom, but what you’re really doing is fighting other people. When xtianity ruled the world it was called the dark ages, muslims are a younger religion, so you haven’t recognized your foolishness yet, but you will.

Anyway, there is no hell or demons, so there is no xtianity or islam - both are mythologies that believe they know their god’s history and god’s business and god’s wars and what god thinks - get over yourselves. You’re both the evil in the world and you do your evil against others while thinking you are good. You’re both deluded by a hallucinating madman - xtians have paul and muslims have mohamed.

xtianity and islam are the abominations in the world and we will continue to live in this age of chaos and war as long as you two abominations continue with your paranoiad beliefs and aggression against others.

Reality will never budge no matter what anyone believes - the whole world can believe against reality, but reality will peacefully go on and nothing interferes with the natural order of our universe, no cosmic wars, no evil, it just is.

what is the best kind of dog for winter and summer.. snow and no snow?
im moving up to mammoth in about 3 weeks, and i want to get a puppy to come with me. what would you suggest is a good breed?

Husky. Chow Chow. Lab.
Daniel D | Jan 01, 2010

Firstly, you should probably wait until you get up there before you purchase a dog. It will be too much stress on a new puppy to make a big move.
Any dog will be fine for both kinds of weather.

Since you don’t seem to want any particular breed and are not looking for any specific traits, I suggest you go to the local shelter in Mammoth and find a dog there.

cooldude65 | Jan 01, 2010

wait until you get settled in before you get a dog. with all the hassle of moving, setting up a new household and all the excitement that goes with a move, it’s not the best time to introduce a puppy to the family. Once everything is at a normal level, then get a puppy and introduce him to the household.

A sled dog or a mountain dog:

Alaskan Malemute
Siberian Husky
Samoyed
Great Pyrenees
Kuvasz
Greater Swiss Mountain Dog
Saint Bernard
Bernese Mountain Dog

breeds like these can handle the cold and the snow

samoyed are nice larger dogs with a full coat for snow! i don’t like husky’s b/c the tend to be hyperactive and destructive. a lab puppy would be good too, they are fun to have around.

Golden Retrievers, their coats are designed for all weather, they have 2 layers. Yup!!
haloween games | Jan 01, 2010

I would suggest moving first and settling in, then getting the puppy once you see what your lifestyle is going to be like. It will be one less concern on the move and a big joy once you are in a new place.

Honestly, I think just about any kind of dog would be okay. Little ones can go out to potty in the snow just fine, bigger ones can walk distances in the snow with you, while smaller breeds won’t be as apt to this. But if your dog will live in your house (which I certainly hope it will), then, the type of dog should just be what you’d like to have.
IHasAnIdget | Jan 01, 2010

I think a Husky would be your best choice. Will it be outdoors or indoors? Oh, well, if it is a puppy obviously you should keep it indoors until it is about 7 months I’d say. But huskies do not do well in heat outside, a matter a fact to please it you should keep it indoors. Huskies are pack dogs and enjoy staying inside with their family.

If you want an outdoor, a Lab would be good. Just make sure it has plenty water and shade in the summer. :)

**move before u buy it first**
and I suggest you rescue a puppy its much better than buying a perfectly safe and okay puppy. Save a life! :D

Hope I helped a little.

husky’s, they are good for the snow, and without snow, as they have good paw pads for running in the snow. They are also good in sled races, and are strong, powerful breeds. Husky’s are a popular breed for the snow, and do good with children. They are loyal dogs and love there owners, as they bond to you. they are medium in size, and have a slender, soft coat, that can adapt to cold weather. here are some pictures:

I want to alter the "hover time" needed to un-hide the taskbar in WinXp?
As stated above, I want to alter the length of "hover over" time needed to unhide the taskbar in autohide mode. . The default is apparently near instantaneous.

I have setup my autohiding task bar on the right side of the screen (I know, but I love it there) so everytime I make even a nanosecond "hover over" on the far right corner, the taskbar comes up. I would like a hover over time of atleast .5 seconds so I can access the _[]X window commands and the scroll bar. I have setup what is the perfect taskbar setup for me, and this is the only flaw in my setup.

Now, to be clear, I don’t need to adjust how long until the taskbar hides after being triggered, but the time you need to leave your cursor over before it pops back. Hopefully, someone can point me to a simply registry value to change, or failing that a free utility that can do the same.

Unfortunately values like that are not accessible from the registry or any other areas. The times are actually built into the software.

I’ve been looking for a while and not found anything.
