Sudden Food Intolerance?
In April, I had a very bad stomach "bug" which lasted 3 days. Subsequent to this - and this may be pure coincidence - I was finding myself getting terrible stomach aches/upsets which my GP diagnosed as IBS - no tests done, just told me it was IBS. Not being satisfied with this diagnosis, I had a private food intolerance test done. The results showed that I am intolerant to, amongst other things, potatoes, cheddar cheese and apples. Apart from apples which have always given me indigestion, I have eaten spuds and cheese all my life. I cut out potatoes and cheese and my stomach did settle down fine. After eating rice, pasta and couscous for 3 months, I had 1 small potato. There are just some things where you cannot substitute a potato!! Within a few hours, was in agony for the next 24 hours.
I also had a similar reaction when my daughter (who was unaware of my problem and did not say anything) cooked dinner and put grated cheddar in the pasta sauce - I did not know this when I ate it and can therefore safely say it was not a case of "expecting" it to upset my stomach.
Why - after 50 years - has this started? Is it to do with my stomach bug in April ? More importantly, will I ever be able to enjoy potatoes and cheddar again?? I can’t imagine Christmas dinner without my roasties!!
you need to be tested for lactose intolerance and celiac disease. What kind of testing did you do, btw. Just curious and it may change my answer…
anyway, ANY doctor who jumps immed. to IBS without testing first for lactose intolerance and celiac disease need to be fired on the spot, and I mean RUN, do NOT walk from that person. IBS is medically NORMALLY a diagnosis of last resort and jumping right to that without additional testing can delay a real diagnosis for years, if not decades (as in my case personally!) Meanwhile the doctor gets to pretend s/he has done their job, get their money while the patient suffers and their body becomes more and more damaged! Get a second opinion and fire the doctor who did that to you!!! AsaP!!!
Here is the thing, lactose intolerance can occur at any time as people age we produce less and less lactase. Celiac is genetic and can trigger at any time… reasons include age, sickness or injury, pregnancy (in my case) and other events.
Nightshade intolerance is not that uncommon, so it will be easy for you to find support, and with you having a reaction to cheese, that would be milkfat or casein that you need to be looking out for.
Welcome to the limited diet club, get tested at the least for celiac though.
Good luck and i hope this helps!

hm..kinda sounds like celiac…
some disorders can be hidden for a long time and all of a sudden something triggers them out of hiding. it’s weird and freaky, but does happen.
most times, i don’t believe you can go back to eating like you did…

I do food sensitivity testing for a living and have noticed that it is very common to start with food sensitivites after a stomach bug. It happened to me - I had developed a slight problem that really kicked off after I got a stomach bug in the philippines - my decline in health was immediate from that point. I think it may be to do with disruption to the bacteria in the bowel but I have never been able to reintroduce the foods I am sensitive to without the symptoms recuring. If you are sensitive to potatoes you should also eliminate aubergine, tomatoe, chilli, capsium and paprika which all belong to the same family. It is unlikely that you will ever be able to eat those foods again without symptoms coming back. Why not have roast sweet potatoes and parsnips instead.
If you still have some symptoms then have a vega test - it seems to pick up things at a lower level than the York test. As well as food sensitivity testing I also do colon hydrotherapy and I have never found anyone who’s doctor told them they had IBS that I couldn’t help. Ifg you still have symptoms you still are having some foods that are acuasing problems. Feel free to mail me if you would like to discuss.
