Night Skies
|
IMDB rating: 4.70 Plot: On March 13th, 1997 one of the largest UFO sightings ever recorded took place across the southwestern United States. The event became known as the ‘Phoenix Lights’ and was witnessed by community leaders, members of law enforcement, as well as thousands of everyday citizens. This true story, based on transcripts from actual hypnosis-therapy sessions, finally reveals what happened after the infamous incident ended and how six people, stranded by chance on a forgotten road, encountered more than just lights in the sky. |

science question help please?
a) why are stars easily seen in the night sky, but some planets are not?
b) one object smaller that earth? options… (comet, Satellite, solar system, star)
c) 2 objects larger that earth? same options
3) DESCRIBE THE MAIN FEATURES OF THE BIG BANG THEORY.
B) STATE 2 PIECES OF EVIDENCE THAT SUPPORT THE BIG BANG THEORY.
a) Stars are bright objects radiating light that is easy to see. Planets do not emit their own light but reflect light from nearby stars so they have only a tiny fraction of the luminosity (visibility) of stars. Planets also tend to be orbiting closely to stars so the observer on earth only sees the bright star and the planets are invisible next to the bright light.
b)Satellite
c) solar system, star
3) Big Bang assumes that billions of years (Earth years!) ago there was a sudden materialisation of a plasma type material that was superhot and expanding very quickly. As it expanded through our universe it cooled and formed elementary particles that we know today on Earth. Huge clouds of dust containing these particles (atoms molecules etc) were formed containing initially hydrogen and helium and light materials. These clouds in turn formed clumps through gravitational attraction which slowly "accreted" (got larger)? and eventually warmed up and ignited to form stars. Dust clouds around the stars then clumped together to form planets etc which orbit the stars. The theory says that the universe is still expanding through a process called "expansion" to this day. Astronomers have observed that this process is actually speeding up which is a bit of a surprise and to justify this observation they have had to create the existence of another material called "dark matter". So far nobody has found any dark matter so this part of the theory could be wrong.
B) Astronomers can see through measurements with telescopes that the observable universe is still expanding everwhere in a way that appears to suggest that planets. stars etc once were close together in a single place. There is also a feature of our universe called background radiation which is a very low, nearly uniform level of radiation that can be measured everywhere in the sky. Clever and sophisticated instruments have been scanning this radiation in all directions looking for evidence of shock waves that should have been created if the big bang actually happened. Such evidence has recently been detected that would imply that the big bang actually happened.
